Burning Wood Pellets

The basket worked great for burning pellets as a campfire alternative. Much less expensive than paying 5 bucs for a small amount of split wood at campgrounds' I have some videos to process taken while out camping. will post later.

I made time to burn a small basket full in the new tent size stove. It's still burning as I type

How was the heat output on the stove ? Could you bring it up to high temperature using the pellets ? (Hot enough to get the stove paint smoking ?)

How about exhaust smoke ? Pellets are usually pretty dry. Did you get a clean burn with little to no smoke ?

I'm curious to see what kind of burn times you can get with the basket. Most pellet stoves use a hopper feed, and a small burner grate. You may be on to a new alternative to the hopper feed system if the batch feed system burns as hot and cleanly.

It gets really hot, especially when the wind is blowing and the rear air control is wide open sure did get hot enough to remove a large amount of paint...yesiree

There was no exhaust smoke for about 45 min and then it was really getting hot all around the basket causing the pellets to gassify to extremes and so the gasses were not able to ignite and so up the chimney they went. I then walked around the stove to inspect how the sides were heating up and that's when I noticed the rear air intake holes were wide open. I closed them and then went around and closed the front ones about half way. The smoke subsided in about 5 min. It's a learning curve for sure.

I did another burn later in the evening with half a basket just to burn off more paint. It was dark out so I left the front door open so I could watch the burn progress. It was a comforting small fire to watch I did not do any timed test to see how long they burn with flame visible.

As long as the air intake holes are adjusted correctly, the entire burn will be smokeless.

They say the dirty volitals are squeezed out of the pellets during the high compression process of manufacturing them. If you google wood pellet manufacturing it will say that in the description.

Yes, that's the first time I've seen a stove with an air intake at the rear.

also at the rear bottom there is a slide vent or maybe I should call it a clean out trap door.

Hope to use this stove a lot during this year. did you ever see the barbeque chef on the "Create" tv series...has a whole bunch of stoves going all at once

Hehe, I'll get all of my wood burners going on pellets this year all in the same evening

Ah, good old Barbecue "U". Great show. I'm waiting for a new season to watch. His flat bread recipe is good on the grill.

Man, if you get all of your stoves going at once, you will have the fire department out there in no time !

How are you going to get a whole side of beef on that little stove ???

while on my last campout I purchased a grater to be used in the center of the pellet basket to introduce air into the center of the mass. It worked great/

The one video shows a roaring fire created with the help of some small twigs to give it the appearance of a regular wood campfire. the grate is in the center of the mass.

The other video shows the pellets after all the yellow flames go out and only the clean blue flames are seen. I burned 4 bags of pellets during our stay at the campground. That's 160 pounds of pellets at a cost of $20.00 purchased at "Lowes" big box store.

Pellets like lots of oxygen...lots and lots that's why I put something in the center to allow it to come from below and feed the center.

Ok, a recent purchase from a thrift store has put burning pellets to a new level

I used the same stainless basket, put it inside a stainless food service tray and then the stainless chimney on top. About 1/2 bag of pellets fits in the basket. I light it with 91% rubbing alcohol poured on top/center. Used it Friday evening at a campground.....I was in stovie heaven

Once the flames disappear, there is a super nice bed of red hot charcoal pellets ready for BBQing something. I have a set of notched bars to support a rotisserie rack. The bars attach to the side of the flame concentrator. I'll be able to roast something and do shishkabobs.

The walls of the fire-ring are about 2' high and diameter of the ring is about 3'
