Thoughts on the innovative CamelBak All Clear

Hey all, it’s been a little while since I’ve posted but I’ve been reading postings. I figured that I might share a product that I think I found on Gizmodo.
It’s the CamelBak All Clear water bottle. edit: description deleted I remember as a kid doing a bike ride up into the Rocky Mountains up in the Squamish area, and being caught on a sunny day without enough water. I got some vicious heat stroke, and have been very attentive to take my water needs seriously since then. Also as an outdoor enthusiast any product that combines functions, in this case the bottle and lid combined with the UV light, makes me all giddy!
Now I have to take a step back though. I like the idea of the CamelBak All Clear. It looks like a product designed for solo hikers, and might be worth looking into, that being said there are plenty of similar products on the market for the thirsty traveler.

I am not thrilled about $99 plus purchase batteries. I have no idea how well rechargeable batteries would function in that particular system, either.

I might like that prefilter for my CamelBak with Tap Guard for untrustworthy water taps.

I could prefilter, then use any filter system, for example, my Sawyer filter.

For $99 I like the hand crank model, Sidewinder, from SteriPen better.

But have you seen the mÜV water purifier?

The mÜV water purifier isn't dependent on a particular water bottle, plus it provides rechargeable batteries.

On sunny days how long does it take for UV rays to pasturize let say 1 quart of water?

I've read that most water found in the back country is safe to drink. it was in the book "How to shlit in the woods" A doctor made that statement.

Might be that most illnesses are related to improper human cleanliness practices.

I would invest in the Military version of the Steri Pen.

I lot of backpacker's illnesses are caused by using household detergent and not rinsing thoroughly. There is seldom sufficient rinse water available to rinse thoroughly without directly damaging the water source. That is why we have the bio-suds products and are told to wash some distance away from the water source.
If really grimy, I use a non-alcohol wipe.

I am not so sure about that. Beaver and turtles are carriers of giardia.
There is a "practice" of purchasing and releasing turtles every month. I told the San Francisco Public Health official I knew of one Tibetan Lama who said he purchases turtles every month and then releases the turtles on the drive between San Francisco and Oregon. The San Francisco Public Health official was appalled at the thought I was making a slur against Tibetan Lamas.
I seldom trust a natural water source, unless remote.
