Milkweed seed pod fluff as emergency tinder.

A very good natural emergency tinder is the fluff inside of a milkweed seed pod. It catches really easy with a spark from a ferroceriam/flint rod as seen on my keychain. I use a single edge razor blade as my steel striker. The movie is made of several 20 second segments. It's to demonstrate how easy it is to ignite. Tomorrow I'll get some photos of the seed pods up on PhotoBkt

Nice use of local native materials Zelph. I haven't see those around Seattle but I know they can easily be found in Illinois.

One of my wife's favorite Christmas ornaments is an angel made with milkweed pods as wings, a fir cone as a body, and an acorn cap for a hat.

This is just a bump of sorts, I put the video up on youtube for the world ;) Just a note for the heckofit.....There are milkweeds that grow in the woodland of Illinois Esclepias Exaltata/woodland milkweed. the pod looks much narrower than the regular. Similar to the Butterfly weed milkweed.
