Potential alcohol Fuel bottle

Postby just tinkering » Wed Feb 03, 2010 8:16 pm

While you old pros out there can accurately meter out the perfect amount of alcohol, I have been having troubles in the field being consistent and accurate. I tried metering out capfulls and keep spilling on my hands or gloves. I found a bottle that might work pretty well as it is designed to dispense 10 ml. Most of my trips will be 3-5 days in duration and with my wife.

Let me know what you think. The mouthwash cost ~ 4 bucks and I have seen other backpacking bottles with 1/2 ounce dispensing but they seemed small at 4 or 8 ounce (and they cost more money).

I like it.....if the bottle is put in the sun and heats up it will cause the fuel to rise and enter the cup. Just an increase in temp will cause it to rise. Hold your hands around the bottle and warm it up and see if it rises.

The fuel will stay put until after up take the top off. Once the top is removed, then the pressure differential will cause it to gush out (or suck in). There are probably better solutions out there. After posting the video, I looked at the Zenstoves site and they also show the same bottle.

Looks like the automotive bottles are a good choice. Too bad, I never use those products. I'll keep looking for posible solutions.

I don't think I'd store alcohol in a water bottle, mouthwash bottle,or any bottle that had an injestible product in it before hand unless the label was fully removed and it is permanently marked as FUEL ALCOHOL.That's plain stupidity of a website to tell you to store poison in an aqua fina water bottle...
I use smaller bottles say 4oz ones that I can tell 1/2 a bottle is 2oz..or 2oz bottles where half a bottle is 1oz,etc...or mark them with a sharpie at approximate ounce levels.

Well, if you don't ever use those things, and you feel like getting ripped off, order one from brasslite for $6.

http://www.brasslite.com/OrderForms/Acc ... .html#16oz

Although the squirt nozzle they screw onto the measuring side, will probably cause inconsistent results by shooting fuel back up the pressure tube, when you squeeze it while pointing down..

I dunno, I'd just put a regular cap on it.. They use these bottles for liquid fertilizer and pest products also.

The small one for 5.00 seems like a good deal and size.
