Bud bottle size different?
Bud bottle size different?
This may have been covered before but I haven't found it on the forum. I made a handful of stoves a while back and gave them away as gifts. Using a saw at home and a friend with a press made it possible. I even had a die made.
Interest from fellow hikers at my new job has me trying to make them again. Seems that since Budweiser went to the twist off cap the dimensions have changed and the bottle is wider and the metal is thinner.
I've had issues getting the bottle into the die and the edges aren't rolling as they did previously.
Any tips or ideas on what I might be missing?

Re: Bud bottle size different?
You need the thicker aluminum bottles. The alloy is softer than the new bottles. I have not tried the thin stuff.

Zelph, where do you get the thicker bottles? Anything I should be looking for?
Re: Bud bottle size different?
I stopped looking long ago. The only place they can found is on ebay for a premium price. Search for older mountain dew bottles also.KLC wrote:Zelph, where do you get the thicker bottles? Anything I should be looking for?

Thanks for the reply Zelph. I'll keep working at it.

Nice photo.....did any cracks occur in the roll over?

Re: Bud bottle size different?
2 piece stoves as my die doesn't allow for the smooth long roll over. No cracks in 10 bottles/stoves.

You're doing great
What's next?
I'll have to give it a try with my tools and see what I can come up with
