Dan,
I thought I asked but don't remember and can not find it.
What is the thinnest aluminum sheet stock that should be used for non weight bearing windscreens. I am going to make a close to the pot with swirling exhaust chambers and your whirlwind air inlet windscreens. My windscreen will be between 8" and 10" tall so that the exhaust can swirl completely around a 32 oz. Conquistador pot.
If I can find it, can I use the same thickness as the old small Starlyte EZ fold screen?
Regards,
Paul
Least thickness aluminum for non pot bearing windscreen
Re: Least thickness aluminum for non pot bearing windscreen
I suggest using roof flashing. That's what I used for the swirl windscreen and the ones for the Conquistador kits. It was handy at the big box hardware stores in the roofing supply section. The EZ-Folds windscreen material I think was .005 dead soft aluminum. (tooling foil) found in craft stores. The taller the better for a good draft/swirl.
The thinner the material, the more likely it is to deform when cutting slots and rolling up for storage. If you roll it around the can the louvers will collapse more easily.

Re: Least thickness aluminum for non pot bearing windscreen
My exhaust chambers add an additional 3 ounces to the weight so I will want to make the whirlwind air input 9.5+ inches tall to be as lite as possible to compensate.
I have some roof flashing around here somewhere (no doubt it is with the Dremel tool.) But I ordered and received 12" X 30" of 36 gauge (.005) aluminum to start with.
Getting closer. With your help.
Thanks
Paul

I'm interested also to see if the tape adhesive melts.
