i found some shock cord here that is in an old fleece that i have but the wife wont let me take it out. :(

i did, however, take some paracord and lace it up like i would the shock cord and it didnt seem to get in the way of using the front pocket too much. i also cliped a couple things on the daisy chain to see how it held with the cord through it and it did fine with that too.

i think the holes are in the pockets so you can run the bottom compression straps through them if you need more room in the pockets.

That doesn't sound right to me, you should keep thinking and researching the exact purpose of the opening :P

the bottom is sewn good and so is the side on the back of the pack but the side on the top isnt. i dont get it. i dont think it would cause a problem but i just dont get it.

HA! I hadn't even noticed that! I'm going to run the compression strap through it! I think that's probably what it's for. What a bonus! Totally removes my pet peeve and is a great design point that you can run the strap either under or over the pocket. Under for water bottles where you don't want it in the way, and over for tent poles that need to be held in the pocket.

i would like to take another opertunity to thank krabs for bringing this pack to my attention! :D

i still havent had a chance to try it out yet but i have bee able to play around with it here at the house some. my 3L camelbak is a little big for the pack but i want to say that it claims to be made for a 2L. i moved the hydration tube clip over to the right shoulder strap. i dont like it on the left side. there is a piece of webbing just for it on the left side but i was able to make it fit on the right. so thats better for me.

and the other thing. since i have the day off and the wife is at work i found one of my old coats and yanked the shock cord out of it. im not leaving this on the pack because its blue and i would rather have black but its good enough to test on the first trip out. :D

the wife may cause me trouble with this pack though. i was playing with it the other night seeing how i wanted to pack it for fit and she wanted to try it on. she likes it a little too much and so do i. so i may be going to get another one for sure now.

im hunting down more batteries for the camera now so i can take a couple pics. if anyone wants to see them let me know.

I have this same pack! And I love it...I am pondering getting a second. Between my wife and I, we SHOULD be able to haul everything we need for a 2 night backpacking trip in a pair of them....I think. Has anyone explored the option of hanging a small sleeping bag from the bottom of one?

I have not even been there to take a look at them. Go ahead and hang a bag from it and see how it feels. 2 packs should be enough for the 2 of you.................get an extra one just in case :D :D

I love those front belt pockets! I usually wear a small fanny pack on the front to carry my camera and some snacks and other sundries.

Yeah, those side pockets are amazing. I would hang a sleeping bag form it....but I have absolutely no idea how haha. Ideas? (my sewing expertise ends at buttons)

You might consider sewing on some strapping..like I did with this--->
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4624
Here's a better shot--->Image

If you need to attach a set of straps at a certain spot, you can just handsew the middle point of a couple straps on the bottom about 8-10" apart..something that will carry the bag securely.I added straps sewn every 2" on this fanny/day pack on the front straps,on the sides over the top down to the fanny point, and a set on the back about 8" apart.
I can tie/hang anything practically anywhere on the pack..it weighs practically nothing(16oz).Inside it can hold the majority of small stuff...and the larger items on the exterior as shown in the pictures in that thread.I have another 6-8 small straps(included in the weight) with plastic buckles, use whatever i need for the trip and leave the extras at home.
Running the straps across the pack section(front to back) and handsewing/tacking just a couple spots across the straps say a couple inches apart and they should hold fine for holding bags, mats, main tent or whatever lighter, larger items are necessary for your trips.
If you get the strapping,it may be worthwhile to hire a seamstress or someone that sews, show them these pictures so they know what you want..and do a similar set with your light packs where needed. As it says in the other thread..The extra straps can be used for compression straps also by just sliding them through the sewn on straps and tightened more to the body if the pack isn't full.It is big enough for an over night and carrying everything but the last trip I took.I decided to add 96 oz of water in a plastic bottle instead of pumping it and changed my mind at the last minute.,took a heavier 2lb golite instead.. :o
One more thing..the 12oz pack came with a couple strap attachments on the bottom already for strapping on a tent or bag..or your jacket if it needs drying or gets too warm out... ;)
If the clouds are so thick you can't see the top of the mountain from the bottom..what the heck makes you think it'll improve the other direction!Realityguy
