I found this interesting. Last year in Southern Illinois there was part of a dugout conoe found that was dated approx 2,000 years old. One of the currators at the Dickson Mounds Museum informed me that he was going to go there to investigate and possible accuire if for the museum. So this article on preserving this French vessel got my curiosity up.
