The TOTO Alcohol Stove

Postby just tinkering » Mon Feb 08, 2010 6:41 pm

The TOTO alcohol stove is my first attempt to make a cyclone stove. I have been able to make a stove that will boil 2 cups of 70 F water using 16 mls of S-L-X denatured alcohol. Measurements were conducted over three runs (other test details are in the video). Additionally, I have included directions as to how I made the TOTO stove. Let me know your thoughts, comments and ideas, this is a work in progrss as the design still needs some refinement. I hope that you enjoy the video.

Most interesting flame pattern that has come across the tube and the tune matches the flame gyrations perfect :D

I was disappointed that the flame settled down :o

Those sparks off the pot bottom at the end of the burn.......how'd you do that?

One or two moving lines were a bit blurry for my eyeballs :(

Thanks for the DIY info, nice details, good job :D

Sparks - I suspect that the sparks that occur during the burnout is due to residual particles from the cut-off wheel.

Nice affect :D

Why do you think the vortex calms down to an even pattern?

I suspect that the stove is "cold" and that the vaporization rate is not mature. I suspect what happens with a lot of stove designs is that the jets or airflow is not optimal until the thermal system balances out. In the TOTO stove, I suspect that I can make it "dance " around agin by placing the base in water.

Snapp!!!
Cool!!

Of course being mentioned in the credits don't hurt my feelings none either. LOL. :DP: :DP:
The opinion of 10,000 men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject.

Try making the slots longer/wider. Let the air enter more freely. see what happens. Might not heat up as much and the vortex will continue......maybe
