The originals were made without. Later the wick was introduced by a member from out west (Seattle), an engineer, his name is DaddyMnM The thread he created is
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=689&hilit=copper+wick I incorporated his idea into the Cobalt, Cobalt blue Soloist and the GoTo stoves.
Minibullldesign made the same type of stove without the wicking material inside the walls. that's why he had to use a primer wick or tray to heat the stove up in order to get the jets to light quickly.
